Shoes are some of the most wasted accessories used by us. Once we outgrow them or stop loving them, we usually just discard them without giving much thought. These shoes end up in landfills or incinerators and contribute to global warming when burnt. On the other hand, a large majority of underprivileged children don’t have proper shoes. This is ironic to say the least. Lack of proper footwear (more so sports footwear) forces them to play barefoot, impacting their learning and performance, and often resulting in frequent injuries. In this irony, lies the opportunity and that is why Shoe Library was born. It functions exactly like a book library where a limited number of shoes are made accessible to many children, thus creating a sense of collective responsibility and sharing.
